JOB SUMMARY
The young persons' participation and development assistant will work alongside East Dunbartonshire house project and the promise lead.
The post holder will work to ensure that young people with care experience are empowered and supported to have their voices heard and to actively contribute to service development and ideas for change.
They will work directly with young people and community members to promote the promise and the independent care review.
The will contribute to creative ideas for participation and gathering of views from both professional and members of the public.
The post holder will also support the work of the local house project which supports care experienced young people to prepare to move into their own homes.
This support will include preparation for group work sessions, social media and website updates and other administrative tasks.
The post holder will also be involved in promoting the house project to the wider community.
This post is for 25 hours/ 3 days per week. The post holder will be based within the local house project office in Kirkintilloch with some remote working from home.
The post holder will be expected to work core hours of 9-5 with some flexibility including evening work.
The main duties will include:
Supporting the practical delivery of group work organisation
Supporting the maintenance of the house project website (training provided)
Supporting the wider team with various administrative tasks including uploading information to a learning portal, inputting on databases, sending out meeting invites
Contribute to supporting professionals and the community throughout East Dunbartonshire to be aware of and consider what the Independent Care Review and The Promise can mean to them.
Direct involvement in work aiming to ensure that children, young people and their families and able to easily and regularly participate and provide their views on experiences, developments and ideas for change. This would particularly relate to experiences of care in East Dunbartonshire.
EDC house project works with care experienced young people supporting them to prepare to move into their own homes. The house project focuses on building relationship with young people to achieve their potential and learn the skills needed to live independently.
Young people are supported both on a 1:1 basis and through the delivery of weekly group work. Young people work through the house project programme over 6- 9 months. For more information see website https://eastdunbartonshire.thehouseproject.org/
The Promise Scotland was established following the findings from the independent care review. The role of the promise Scotland is to drive forward the changes set out within the promise.
EDC Promise Lead has a key role in promoting the promise throughout EDC and supporting services to take forward the changes set out within the plan a key to this being participation and engagement with communities and families within EDC. For more information see https://thepromise.scot/
SKILLS NEEDED
This post is only open to someone with care experience.
The term care experienced refers to anyone who has been or is currently in care or from a looked after background at any stage of their life, no matter how short.
This care may have been provided in one of many different settings such as in residential care, foster care, kinship care and looked after at home with a supervision requirement.
This post requires someone who is motivated, enthusiastic and has a willingness to learn.
The role involves finding creative ways to engage with young people and the wider public.
The post holder must be able to present in a professional manner and have an understanding of the importance of client confidentiality.

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
The young person will be allocated a key worker from our employability team who will support them with employability skills such as CV writing, interview skills and completing job applications.
The young person will have the opportunity to gain a wide range of skills and experience that will improve their jobs prospects which include:
• Supporting the engagement and involvement of care experienced young people on the house project
• Support the administration of engagement and involvement activities for the house project and the promise
• Assist in the development of creative engagement activities for services and service users in relation to the promise .
• Support the delivery of information sessions to promote the visibility of the promise across East Dunbartonshire
• Assist staff to develop session plans/activities for staff to use with young people.
• Be able to attend and support the delivery of residential activities
