NHP Annual Conference 2022 - Changing the Narrative

Our recent annual conference was a huge success and was enjoyed by presenters and audience alike. In the aftermath we reflected at some length on the theme of the day which led us to draw this blog together. Charities are established for a number of reasons with social justice and a quest for a fairer society being the driver for many that support marginalised groups.

CLNM visits the Childrens and Families Minister

8th March 2022

Last year young people were trained as Peer Evaluators. They completed their Evaluation and presented their findings to Conference in Manchester which they designed and delivered. This was picked up by Mark Riddell, National Implementation Adviser for Care Leavers and they were subsequently invited to share their report findings and recommendations with Will Quince, Minister for Children and Families.

Care Day 2022 - Together we create community

18th February 2022

The theme of this year’s Care Day fits perfectly with the House Project approach and focus upon community. In October 2021,  the Care Leavers National Movement (CLNM) conference was entirely planned and delivered by young people around the theme of community. Community is important to us all and as CLNM’s Peer Evaluation states 'community can be places or spaces... but most importantly community is formed by a group of people'.

In a landmark event to mark the 10th anniversary of the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014, Who Cares? Scotland hosted its first ever Corporate Parenting Awards, celebrating achievements of organisations dedicated to supporting Care Experienced young people. The event in Glasgow recognised outstanding contributions across several categories, with East Dunbartonshire and Midlothian House Projects winning awards in three areas.
