Our Partnership Offers & Opportunities for Young People and LHPs

NHP and LHPs have developed a number of partnerships with companies and charities across the UK to support our community of young people. This page will help you to keep up to date with all current opportunities available for your projects and young people to access.
Workshop Opportunities
DIY Workshops - GMI Construction
GMI Construction are offering DIY workshops for groups of young people in different locations. Please contact Kat@thehouseproject.org for more information.
CV Workshops, Go Green
Go Green have offered CV workshops to LHPs where needed. Please contact kat@thehouseproject.org for more information.
Homeserve - Basic Skills Learning
Homeserve have gas and plumbing engineers across the country who could help with basic skills training (so young people know what to look out for and when to get help if something looks unsafe), as well as practical support once young people have moved in to their homes (or possibly need help fitting washing machines, with plumbing or gas cookers).
White Goods
Charis – Let’s Talk Energy Fund
Young people moving into their own properties (in England and Scotland) may be eligible to apply for the Let’s Talk Energy Fund where they can apply for up to two
appliances: Fridge Freezers, Fridges, Freeze, Electric Cookers, Gas Cookers, Washing Machines, Washer dryers or Tumble Dryers.
They would be eligible if:
• Be in receipt of means tested benefits or have a gross annual
household income below £20,328
• Not already have the type of appliance you’re applying for, or, have an
existing appliance that’s more than 8 years old or broken

This is in addition to NHPs offer of up to £200 on a white good.
Renew2U/GapRenew
Our partnership with Renew2U enables young people to purchase refurbished / returned white goods from their online platform at significantly reduced costs, with a
further 5% discount added. This includes cookers, refrigerators, freezers, dishwasher, washing machine and microwaves. They won’t install it but delivery is
free.
NHP also funds up to £200 towards the cost of one white good for each young person moving into their home. Although NHP only funds one item up to £200, young people can purchase as many items from the Gap Renew website as they like.

Bursaries
Wienerberger - Construction Careers Bursary
Our partners Wienerberger provide a number of opportunities for young people. Firstly, they offer a Construction Careers bursary, to provide funding for young people to start careers in the construction industry. The fund is to provide support specifically around access to construction/trades, for example, gaining a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card, engineering, bricklaying or plumbing courses, work tools/clothing or course/cost of living fees. This bursary is open to applications all year round.
Workplace Visits
Wienerberger - Workplace Visits
They also have many sites around the UK, which they’re able to offer site visits too or work experience. These include:
Workplace visit to factory at Denton (Greater Manchester), Ewhurst (Surrey), Kingsbury (North Warwickshire), Sandown (West Midlands), Waresley(Worcestershire), Warnham (West Sussex).
Work experience (office): Cheadle and Sale
Plus, other opportunities to visit their sites in Sandtoft (South Yorkshire) where they have a factory and apprenticeship centre. And could run a practical session e.g. bricklaying, with their technical team in Stoke
Work Experience
Currently offered by Reconomy, GES, Valpak, Equans, GMI Construction, Homeserve and Donald Insall. Please contact Kat@thehouseproject.org for more details if you don’t already have a relationship with one of these companies locally. We are looking to develop a wider range of work experience and insight day opportunities – please let us know if there are industry areas young people have expressed an interest in.
Volunteers from Corporate Partners
Homeserve
Homeserve have offered volunteers to support with DIY or gardening projects at your HP base or at a young people’s homes (once they’ve moved in). Please get in touch with Kat to arrange volunteer support. Homeserve have staff all over the country.
Clothing
Suited & Booted
Our partnership with Suited & Booted means young people in your LHP can arrange a visit (individually or as a group) to go and get a smart outfit for interviews / starting a new job.
SmartWorks
SmartWorks provide unemployed women or women on zero-hour contracts with an interview coming up appropriate clothing and interview preparation including coaching and a capsule wardrobe until their first pay date, if they secure the job. SmartWorks has centres in Birmingham, Stockport, Manchester City Centre, Croydon, Islington, Edinburgh and Glasgow (but can also provide virtual services). This offer is open to all LHPs to visit a local centre. Find out more here.

The Birmingham Centre have additional funding to support unemployed women or women on zero hour contracts (who don’t have an interview). We are looking to organize a Midlands wide event with them involving a variety of workshops and support.
>> Smartworks Croydon & Islington – NEW offer
The Centres in Croydon and Islington now provide a care leave offer which means young women don’t need to have an interview to access support, they can access support pre-interview.
Madlug
Every young person who is about to move can have a Madlug bag to move with and to keep. These are sent in bulk to each LHP. If you need a new pack of bags please contact your Practice Lead or kat@thehouseproject.org to order.
Hygiene Items
Period Power (West Midlands only)
Our new partnership with Period Power means you can order sanitary packs for girls in your project, as you need them. Please contact Becky or Kat to place your order.
Decorating/Soft Furnishing/Tools
Quilts for Care Leavers
Every young person who is about to move into their own home can choose a quilt to keep. These are provided in bulk to each House Project, so young people can choose as they move. This offer is open to all LHPs once an agreement with Q4CL is signed. Please contact Kat@thehouseproject.org for more information.
Neighbourly - B&Q Materials
West Sussex Local House Project have recently used Neighbourly to register interest in and collect unused / returned paints from B&Q for their young people. We recommend you create an account with Neighbourly to access this and other opportunities from local businesses in your area.
Johnsons & Dulux
We’ve heard from a couple of House Projects that if you go into Johnsons or Dulux stores/trade counters they are often able to give you free paint (which has been returned, partially used or mixed wrong).

Rent/hire, borrow and share useful household tools and equipment that you might only need once e.g. when a young person moves into their home

You can apply for donations of tablets / TVs from Wavelength here. Please let us know if you’re planning to do this or need support.
Good Things Foundation
Your LHP and/or local authority can become a HUB to access free wifi (via SIMS) for young people for up to 12 months.
Broadband Providers with Social Tariffs
There are a couple of Broadband providers who offer “social tariffs” at much more affordable prices and shorter contracts specifically for care leavers (or those on some benefits). You can find information about these social tariffs here: Social Tariff Broadband
Aspirational Awards
The Aspirational Awards are there to help young people to achieve an ambition, dream or business start-up that will have a lasting impact on your life. They could help you to access a training course, set up a business, or develop a sporting interest. The list is endless, but it does have to have a significant impact. They are for anyone who has completed units within the House Project Programme and is living in their own home.
To apply, a young person must talk things through with their LHP Facilitator and have a clear plan in mind. Complete the application form (download here) and send it to enquiries@thehouseproject.org. A panel meets to consider all the applications. The panel is made up of NHP staff, partners and young people. After the panel has met the young person will receive a letter to tell them whether they have been successful. If they haven’t been successful, we will explain why.

Learning Opportunities
Unite Foundation
Unite Foundation provides scholarships for care-leavers under 25 starting at selected universities, providing free accommodation for up to 3 years whilst the young person is at university. To date, over 800 estranged and care experienced young people have gone to university on the Unite Foundation scholarship. Find out more here.

Lots of opportunities available for young people interested in careers in AI or technology. Find out more here.
Other
Asda
The local Asda store in Walsall has offered to support their LHP with small starter packs for young people (including a blanket, plates, cutlery and food). So it may be worth approaching Asda and other stores to ask how you might be able to partner with them / receive a donation.
