House Project Programme Expands to Support More Young People in Manchester and Fife
A new initiative to support young people transitioning out of care is gaining momentum in Manchester and Fife, as the House Project Programme expands to reach a wider group. The programme, which focuses on supporting care leavers to develop the skills, networks, and confidence needed has seen recent developments in both regions.
In Manchester, the programme will be delivered as part of the Staying Close initiative, giving young people the chance to access a tailored version of the House Project approach. Named 'Growing Together', this adaptation supports young people to develop new skills while maintaining a strong support network. It is designed to support them to take their first steps toward living on their own, while building relationships, making friends and creating a positive community around them.
In Fife, the House Project Programme will open up to care experienced young people joining the Steps to Success Project. This group will now have the opportunity to complete selected sections of the programme while building a strong community around them which provides an additional layer of support as they prepare for the future.
"The impact of the House Project Programme in Fife has been well demonstrated through our young people’s readiness for interdependent living at the end of each cohort," said a spokesperson from the Fife House Project team. "This new venture is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the National House Project to bring a programme to Fife that can support our care leaver community more widely, helping them develop the skills and confidence to access and sustain their own homes."
The expanded programme will be closely evaluated throughout its first year, with findings to be shared across the community. With Manchester’s Growing Together and Fife’s Steps to Success the House Project Programme is set to support increasing numbers of young people to prepare for their futures.
