East Dunbartonshire House Project is a Local House Project (LHP). All LHP's are members of the National House Project. House Projects support young people leaving care to create their own homes and live connected and fulfilling lives.

House Projects are co-designed with young people. They work together to develop relationships and learn skills that enable them to live successful adult lives. They have a choice in where they live and are involved in getting their property ready to become their home. East Dunbartonshire House Project is represented by young people at the Care Leavers National Movement (CLNM) to ensure that a young person’s voice is at the heart of all decision making. They are joined by representatives from all other LHPs.

Life Changes Trust

East Dunbartonshire Council was awarded money through Life Changes Trust to set up a Local House Project for young people leaving care.

Consultation with young people with care experience has helped East Dunbartonshire Council gain an understanding of the lived experience of moving on from care and into a tenancy.

With the House Project, East Dunbartonshire Council build on existing relationships and support systems such as Project 101, a housing support service for young people. They provide young people leaving care with the opportunity to plan and prepare in a structured way to enter their tenancy, making them feel valued and reducing feelings of uncertainty and a lack of control over their future. Furthermore, it provides young people with a community of support and the ability to build connections in the local area, reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation.
